Module Description

Medium to large construction projects require a considerable amount of investment in site set-up.  This ranges from security services, staff sanitary facilities, changing and eating areas, sometimes even staff accommodation, site offices, workshops, unloading areas, stores, temporary water and electricity and sanitary connections, amongst others.

Site management not only requires the setting up of these amenities, but also the management and control of activities on site, such as traffic movement, use of heavy machinery and the delivery and storage of materials, amongst others. This would all need to be done in the appropriate sequence and often within the congested circulation space of the site.

Another important facet of site management is the coordination of subcontractors and specialist contractors that typically are on site sporadically or for short intervals, according to the nature and schedule of work they would need to carry out.

This module also deals with the issue of quality management on construction sites and the responsibilities of various parties in managing quality, as well as the role of the site manager in ensuring that quality management activities are enforced.
