Practical Bookkeeping & Accounts
Scope of Training
This training programme covers both introductory Bookkeeping and Accounting within a relatively short time period. Participants will gain practical skills in Excel spreadsheets, manual and electronic double-entry bookkeeping as well as knowledge and understanding of the essential principles, concepts, ethics and limitations that underpin Bookkeeping and Accounting. This module is a recommended preparatory module for Professional Certificate in Accounting.

- Anyone who wants a good grounding in double-entry Bookkeeping and Accounting
- Anyone who wants to progress to professional qualifications as Bookkeepers, Accounting Technicians and fully qualified Accountants
Course Objectives & Benefits
By the end of the training programme, participants should be able to:
- Perform basic operations as required for Bookkeeping and Accounting
- Perform basic operations with Excel spreadsheets
- Understand the notion of double-entry leading to the preparation of trading, profit and loss as well as balance sheets
- Develop the general, practical and professional skills relevant to the profession
- Develop awareness of relevant ethical issues

- Duration: 2 weeks
- Contact hours: 12 hours
- The course consists of 4 sessions of 3 hours each
- The sessions will be held twice a week in the afternoon
- Successful candidates will be awarded a Certificate of Competence

Topic 1: The basic principles, concepts, ethics, limitations, and techniques central to Bookkeeping and Accounting
Topic 2: Bookkeeping and Accounting – Similarities and Differences
Topic 3: Recording Financial Transactions
Topic 4: Preparing the Profit and Loss Account/Income Statement and Balance Sheet
